Symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury or TBI is also recognized as acquired brain injury this happens when the brain suffers serious trauma because of a serious head injury.  The trauma or head injury can be caused by the head of the victim suddenly hitting an object causing bruising or damage to the brain. Traumatic brain injury can also occur if the head and skull are pierced resulting in a penetrating injury to the brain itself.

Traumatic brain injuries can cause symptoms that can range from mild to severe in victims of head injuries.  The limitations and/or consequences of an acquired brain injury largely depend on the severity of the trauma and extent of the head injury.

Symptoms of an acquired brain injury can vary widely but if the TBI symptoms are mild the victim can stay conscious after the TBI.  However, it is also common for victims of a severe head injury to experience a brief loss of consciousness from a few seconds to a few minutes.
